In the history of humans, we have seen the creation, in many countries of the world, of important documents protecting the rights of people. But are we sure that all living beings benefit from a treaty that protects them and values what they need to be in well-being and harmony? As of today, we can say that yes, it exists. It is called the Charter of Environmental Rights. Within it we find the main rights of the most precious living being in existence: the Environment.

Who wrote such an important and unique document? Hundreds and hundreds of children, from many different countries. They have translated into writing their great sensitivity and strong awareness that our environment is itself life and must therefore be defended and respected.

The Charter of the Rights of the Environment is one of the most beautiful and significant evidence of the power of the Plastic Free Schools Movement, born within the European Erasmus+ project SPEM – School Plastic freE Movement – .

His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Vandana Shiva have signed the Charter as they share every single word and principle of it.

It is a great pleasure to donate this invaluable document to all of you to share at school, in your families and with the whole community. Enjoy reading it!
